A shower or a bath? That is the question….

When you are refurbishing your bathroom, one critical choice – particularly if space is tight – is whether to install a luxurious bathtub or a glorious walk-in shower. Both have pros and cons and the choice between taking a shower and a bath depends on personal preference and specific circumstances. Here are some considerations for each:

Showers:

  1. Efficiency: Showers are generally quicker and more efficient than baths, as they require less water and time. They are ideal for those who are in a hurry or have a busy schedule.

  2. Hygiene: Showers provide a continuous stream of water that rinses away dirt and grime effectively. They are particularly suitable for daily cleansing and can help maintain good personal hygiene.

  3. Refreshing: Many people find showers invigorating and refreshing, especially when using different water pressures or temperatures. They can provide a quick energy boost, particularly in the mornings or after physical activity.

  4. Hair care: Showers are often preferred for washing and rinsing hair. They make it easier to apply shampoo and conditioner and ensure thorough rinsing.

Baths:

  1. Relaxation: Baths are known for their relaxation benefits. Immersing yourself in warm water can help relieve stress, relax muscles, and promote a sense of calmness. It can be an enjoyable way to unwind after a long day.

  2. Soothing ailments: Baths with added salts, oils, or therapeutic ingredients can help soothe sore muscles, relieve minor aches, and promote relaxation. They may be particularly beneficial for individuals with certain medical conditions, such as arthritis.

  3. Skincare: Baths can be advantageous for skincare routines. You can add ingredients like bath oils, moisturizers, or exfoliants to the water, providing nourishment and hydration to your skin.

  4. Time to unwind: Baths provide an opportunity to take a break from technology and distractions. You can bring a book, play relaxing music, or simply enjoy the solitude and tranquility.

  5. Great for little children, fun time splashing in the bubbles is sure to keep the kids happy

Ultimately, the decision between a shower and a bath depends on your personal preferences, available time, and desired outcomes. In an ideal world – install both - so you can have the luxury of alternating between showers and baths! However if push comes to shove, my advice would be to always retain a bathtub in any property with over two bedrooms particularly if you are contemplating a sale in the future as young families will always look for one. However, if you are in a flat and love a strong shower at the end of a busy day, then no problem to say goodbye to the tub. Ultimately, it’s your home, your time.. the choice is yours!
